Antique Japanese fireman's jacket with sashiko stitching - hikeshi banten.
Indigo cotton katazome brick wall motif with ox cart wheels (Gissya) kamon.
Typically these jackets were soaked before firemen ran into a fire. The heavy weight cotton used for this jacket was meant to absorb a good deal of water and served to protect the wearer from the flames.
In excellent condition without rip or tears. Some very minor areas of soiling but nothing that distracts from the aesthetic appearance.
Early 1900's
