An antique heavily worn, repaired and weathered, museum quality boro yogi.
This piece exemplifies what most collectors seek in boro - a visual aesthetic of artfully constructed patchwork that gives a "modernist" feel, evidence of years of hard wear, a variegated ground of handwoven indigo dyed cottons, and extensive sashiko repairs.
These indigo yogi hardly come to the market anymore and are becoming increasingly difficult to offer to the public - many are going to private collections and museums.
This yogi has a strong indigo patchwork exterior with a handsome contrasting brown houndstooth-like lapel. The variegated solid indigo is complimented with a few patches of stripes and checked indigo cottons, katazome, and shibori scraps.
The inside is simply a mesmerizing construction of repairs and reinforcement, held together with hundreds of sashiko stitches and speaks for itself. Both cotton and hemp thread repairs can be found.
This piece is in overall excellent condition, with a few holes in the sleeves and some minor areas of soiling. It was deconstructed by the original owner with extreme care.
