Antique shonai boro noragi.

Shonai sashiko is a traditional technique from the Shonai region, Yamagata, in the northwest of Japan. It was originally used to combine two or more layers of hemp or cotton cloth, and is characterized by straight lines that cross and recross each other, and made with a running stitch.

This noragi is in excellent condition and pieces like this are becoming more scarce in the market. Completely hand dyed, woven, and hand stitched. A wonderful collector's piece.

Early 1900's
