Maneki Neko - Vintage Beckoning Cat
Wonderful old folk ceramic Maneki Neko beckoning cat.
The first appearance of ceramic Maneki Neko in Japan is unclear. Some scholars insist that the form originated in Tokyo, while other documents suggest Kyoto. The cat's earliest appearance in Japanese art can be dated back to 1852. Hiroshige's ukiyo-e "Joruri-machi Hanka no zu" depicts a variation of the maneki neko form being sold at Senso temple in Tokyo.
Antique and vintage Maneki Neko are highly collectible and much sought after. I am very happy to begin offering some from my collection here.
Approximately 13" tall.
