Boro Yogi - Meiji Era Indigo Yogi

An antique heavily worn, repaired and weathered, museum quality boro yogi.

This piece balances a blend of what most collectors seek in boro - a visual aesthetic of artfully constructed patchwork that gives a "modernist" feel and years of hard wear, tattered ground, and extensive sashiko repair.

This is one of the finest examples from my collection of Japanese boro - a one of a kind item that hardly comes to the market anymore. This yogi has a strong indigo patchwork exterior with a unique contrasting brown lapel. The variegated solid indigo is complimented with a few patches of stripes and checked indigo cottons.

The inside is simply a mesmerizing construction of repairs and reinforcement, held together with hundreds of sashiko stitches and speaks for itself.

This piece was purchased from Japan many years ago. It is in overall excellent condition, with a few holes in the sleeves and some minor areas of soiling. It may be possible to remove these discolorations with a light quilt soap.

I've had this piece on display for some time now and it's overall atmosphere is incredible. Please feel free to reach out directly with any questions or if you would like to request additional photos.
