Boro Futon Cover - Meiji era indigo futonji
An antique heavily worn, repaired and weathered, museum quality boro futon.
This piece balances a blend of what most collectors seek in boro - a visual aesthetic of artfully constructed patchwork that gives a "modernist" feel and years of wear, tattered ground, and extensive sashiko repair.
This is one of the finest examples from my collection of Japanese boro - a one of a kind item that hardly comes to the market anymore.
The reverse of this futon is simply a mesmerizing construction of repairs and reinforcement, held together with hundreds of sashiko stitches.
This piece was purchased from Japan many years ago. It is in overall excellent condition.
I've had this piece on display for some time now and it's overall atmosphere is incredible. Please feel free to reach out directly with any questions or if you would like to request additional photos.
