Tsutsugaki Futon - Mon and climbing vine

$600.00

This tsutsugaki futon cover was purchased from a Japanese collector that held an exhibit in Japan of tsutsugaki examples.

The central design is of dramatic, sprawling climbing vines that are mirrored from the center of the cover. The kamon, or mon, in each of the corners is called "hise uri" and is the emblem of the Oda Clan. The Oda clan was a family of Japanese daimyos who were to become an important political force in the unification of Japan in the mid-16th century.

It is in very good condition with some slight discoloration. There are no tears or damage. It is backed with commercial cotton and the reverse is fitted with a slip so that a pole can be inserted and the futon hung for display.

Early to mid 1900's
Dimensions: Approximately 52" wide; 64" long
